There can be only one?

So some of you are probably wondering WTF is up with the sword guy in the background of the main window.
Simple - it's our tribute to 1/3 of our admin team, Steve. It seems Steve got a bit rowdy last week (he had too much chocolate milk...sugar makes him all hyper...) and chased some schmuck through the streets of SLC with not one, but TWO swords. I guess he thinks he's the friggin' Highlander or something. Luckily the guy escaped from the Nitwit Ninja without harm, but like a true wuss he had to go and call the cops on our boy.
The popo found Steve curled up in a drainage ditch, passed out from a severe sugar crash, swords still in hand. Naturally, they did what any law enforcement agency would have done - they tasered the sleeping wookie repeatedly, then gave him the two fisted body cavity search treatment. Reports state that he "took it like a man" and was actually giggling through it all.
In any event, we'll keep our fingers crossed for him...and Steve, if you manage to get this message in the big house, just remember: Don't drop the soap.

Where did Lowbrow go?

I had an entire backstory setup about how Steve was in charge of the Lowbrow bank account and spent it all on a drunken two week bender filled with cheap booze, cheaper hookers and ended with him in a hotel room outside of Vegas, handcuffed to the bed while a transvestite hooker waxed his entire body with Nads hair removal.

I changed my mind. No one wants to hear that.

As you know, our old registrar (Registerfly.com) jacked us around, TRIPLE billed us for a renewal that they never processed AND tried to take over our domain name. It's a scam they've been running for a while now, and they're getting their license jerked away from them as a result, not to mention all of the class action lawsuits and such that are being filed against them. I guess that's what happens when you spend all of the company money on hookers, liposuction and extravagant penthouse apartments, right Kevin Medina? I could go off on a whole tirade in here about him and his lifestyle, but I'll save it for the forums.

The admin team here at Lowbrow spent countless hours on hold trying to resolve it through RegFly, but in the end there was nothing that we could say or do to resolve the issue. I am convinced that they actually added our phone numbers to their system as "blocked" numbers because the first couple of times we called, we got through after about 20 minutes. After raising hell and trying to get them to do something, we would call back only to get looped to the end of queue every 10 seconds. The recording would literally restart itself immediately after it ended as if you had just entered the queue - something that DIDN'T happen the first time we called.

As a result, we did some digging and contacted RegFly's "parent company," Enom. They actually have a section dedicated to dealing with RipoffFly, and they were very helpful and instrumental in getting our domain back for us. Customer service was superb, renewing the domain took seconds to process instead of days, and all of our old MX records (geek stuff that we didnt want to fart around with) transferred over automagically. It was a bit of a hassle proving that we are who we say we are (who would want to impersonate US?) but it was well worth it.

Right now, we are just waiting on DNS to filter down through the intertubes so that everyone can hit the site again - it should only take 24-48 hours at the MOST.

Thanks for your patience everyone - this has been hell on all of us and we're just glad to be on our way back!

Nothing major...

So we are now well over 1 million refreshes. There are now FOUR different versions to choose from (men, women, work friendly, and hi-res) and it seems that more and more people are coming from all over the world to visit us. Yay.

We've even had a couple more submissions for the banners - keep clicking and you might notice them under the "men" section. Thanks to the model who wishes to remain anonymous - great photos!

There has been some talk about having a lowbrow party at the 2007 Mardi Gras...hell, I'm all for that. Gives me plenty of time to plan ahead for it! Bring your cameras, and expect a LOT of new banners afterwards!

That's about all for now folks...

Outages n such

Ok, so there were some minor outages. No one's perfect. It seems that ever since I recabled the office, there have been nothing but problems.

First, it was the firewall. Then MS Frontpage screwed up IIS. Finally, it was a faulty AC line that took us down the last two or three times. Never fear, though - your ever faithful admin is on the case, and with a little luck and whole lot of cussing, things are looking better now than they did before. As a matter of fact, judging by the logs we are fast approaching our one-millionth refresh! I'll try to take a screen shot of the occasion just for posterity's sake, and perhaps we can have some sort of celebration.

With that said, just keep reloading people. As always, feedback is welcome in the forums or via email.

Keep browing...

Site updates and some feedback

Well, we finally got around to updating the site, now that the main admin is back from vacation.

First off, big thanks to Dedric for maintaining the database in my absence. We had some issues with some spammers who didnt seem to like our site too much. We admire your loyalty to our .com alternative, but for the most part, our attitudes (at BOTH sites) is "whatever" - we aren't in a pissing contest with TJay (anymore) and we have apologized several times for some stupid stuff that we said.

Second, thanks again to Dedric and The Crazy Brazilian for the beer, steak and the near-death experience getting me back home after my wife called. Long story short, I seem to have forgotten how to call home when I'm running late. Oops. The steak was good though!

Third, we finally have a "work friendly" version of the site in place - check the main page and feel free to bookmark the non-softcore page if you like. We may re-do the whole banner thing eventually, but we will leave the work-friendly version there.

Fourth, I'd like to take a moment to address the spammers whose childish actions were really uncalled for. I've said it before, but I thought I would post it here as well - you are really only wasting YOUR time, not ours. On average, it takes about 3 seconds to post a moment, even using copy and paste. If you post 100 entries, thats 300 seconds, or 5 minutes for those of you who are quick at math. For us to DELETE 100 entries takes about 15 seconds, or 0.15 seconds per post, which means that we are 2.85 seconds ahead of you, on average. It's your time.

Finally, I'd like to announce a new feature that should be online in the next day or so, pending admin group approval - the "Link of the Day" feature. I envision it as a small text link, possibly in the top right hand corner of the page that will link to someone else's page. Initially, it will be a site of our choosing until it catches on. If you would like to have your site listed for a day on lowbrow.org, send an email to michael@lowbrow.org with your name, your website URL, and a brief paragraph stating why we should link to you. We get quite a bit of traffic - as of this post, we have been online for 45 days now and have had a total of 18,443 unique visitors - thats an average of 409 per day (our current record for unique visitors in one day is 4530...not bad.) Basically what it amounts to is a lot of people come to our site, so here's your chance for some free advertising. For the record, we are not confusing unique visitors with page views (refreshes) - our page view total stands at 165,849 or 3,685 page views per day with a daily record of 18,117.

Not much else to report right now - we do have a store online (www.lowbrow.org/shop.asp) and currently all we are offering are thongs with the lowbrow logo and a "Reload" button. We should have some more designs available soon - still playing catchup with the workload from vacation though!

Thanks to all those who have emailed us with their words of encouragement - they greatly outweigh the number of people who have sent us hate mail by about 6 to 1, so I think its safe to say we are here for the long haul gang!

Update: Stats, plans, etc.

Well, its been about a week (give or take) since we puked this page out on the ole dubya-dubya-dubya dot internet thing, and so far it hasn't gone too horribly wrong. Added a hit counter last week just to see if anybody bothered coming here - in the last nine days, we have had a little more than 18,000 page loads. Not too shabby. We have been consistently over 1,000 per day, with the current record being 4,532 in one 24-hour period. Thanks to everyone who has helped pimp out, er, I mean spread the word about the new site! Keep up the good work. (Incidentally, I do not condone nor endorse the completion of lowbrow.org assignment #1, although mad props go out to two of our members for taking it upon themselves to get the word out!)

And all of this really didn't affect our server, our power bill, or the cost of our new silk underwear. I'm just wondering why the "other site" can't pull it off. *shrugs*

Got a few things on tap here, but we are thinking of getting some merchandise set up. In the true tradition of the lowbrow lifestyle, it will be fairly simple. We'll keep ya updated on that...I don't think we can outperform Tommy Pullmyfinger, but we can try. ;)

I have some more code to write for this j-o-b thing that I have...for some reason, they are talking about seeing "deliverables" or at the very least, some PROGRESS, so I better go make something up...as Steve always says, "Like a fat girl in dodgeball, I'm out!"
